Starting Soilds! Jan. 31

Today was the day... Reagan started to eat "solid foods," or foods that were "less liquid" than her normal milk snacks, AKA mushed veggies and fruits.

After getting the official "Okay" and "Go ahead" from the pediatrician at Reagan's 6-month doctor's appointment on Friday, we decided to dive into the deep end and give Reagan some solid food apart from the breast milk, then formula milk (as of early January), and some rice formula milk mix.

We started with creamed green beans (Gerber brand) in the morning, and Reagan was NOT eating any of it.  Then, thanks to FaceBook, David posted the hilarious video of Reagan's disgusted expression after eating her green bean mix, and some of our friends recommended that she start with carrots, sweet potatoes or squash before green beans.  So, I switched to the carrots this afternoon, and Reagan definitely ate much more of her mushed carrots than of the green beans from at 7:30 this morning!

This high chair that Grandma Nancy gave to Baby Reagan is AMAZING!  It is so easy to put away in the corner to save space in our little apartment, and it is easy to move around.  It is very light, and as it advertises, we can use it as a "tail gate" high chair and bring it to games or just people's houses... for example, if we go to Walt and Mary Margaret's Super Bowl Party tomorrow night, we can easily transport this high chair to the party!  (Plus, as you will notice in the photos at the bottom, David models how you can put your own choice of beverage in the high chair while you are feeding the baby, since you will probably be hard at work holding the baby's beverage in your hand and taking care of her!)

6-month Doctor's Check-up

Reagan went to her 6-months check-up doctor's appointment at 12:45 PM today, January 30, 2015.  She was fast asleep when I picked her up from Day Care and when I moved her from her crib into the carseat before our drive to the doctor's office.
She did well!  Reagan weighed 16 pounds, 16 ounces, measuring in the 50% percentile.  Reagan's length was 25 3/4 inches, measuring in the 40% percentile.  Her head circumference was 17 inches, in the 75% percentile.

The doctor noticed that Reagan still had the funky gunk in her neck... the wet, could-be yeast infection that develops when we don't clean her neck well after the formula drips down from her face when we feed her.
I told the doctor that we were putting the antifungal cream, Lotrimin lotion on Reagan's neck a few times a day, but she recommended that we pick up a prescription of Nystatin cream, a "stronger version" of Lotrimin.

Reagan and I took some "selfies" before she got her two shots for the 6-month check-up and we added one of the two flu shots that she would get this season, just to keep her safe from any more sickness this winter!

Ahhh, another milestone, more adventures.... we need to get away from the easy routine of feeding formula milk to Reagan and will need to start feeding "real" solid food to Reagan now that she is six months old!!!  The nurse and doctor gave us a guide... then I made a grocery trip to Kroger tonight, Friday night, to frantically gather all of these foods that we are supposed to be feeding now to Reagan!  I feel like we are "behind the wheel" because I read that some parents feed solids to their kids as early as four months!

Below is our pile of foods that we will start to feed Reagan this weekend.  The doctor and day care teacher recommended that we begin with vegetable purées before fruits because the babies might not enjoy the vegetables as much later if they start and get addicted initially to the "palatable" flavor of the fruits over the essential vegetables.

I noticed this warning on a package of the puréed vegetables: "It may take up to 10 tries before your baby accepts a new food."  What?!?!?!
