Hank finally goes to the Vet

We finally took Hank to the Vet today.  He was due to go in January, but between Reagan getting sick, David and me getting sick, the "ice days" with school off and just simply not having time to take him in on one of our days off, we finally found some time during my Spring break and one of David's two days off during the week.

Hank was healthy overall, but we need to get his teeth cleaned.  They are turning brown, and while the color of the teeth is not as alarming as it would be in a human's mouth, it's the gingivitis and tartar build-up that concern the veterinarian.  So, we made an appointment to put him under with anesthesia so they can give Hank a good teeth-cleaning.  It will cost us over $300, but we think it's worth it because he's been a low-maintance dog for most of his life.  I would hate for him to have any tooth pain or need to pull any teeth because we didn't get this cleaning done.  We had been brushing his teeth with a human toothbrush and chicken-flavored toothpaste last year, but since Reagan came in July, we admitted to neglecting his teeth-brushing.

Then, after we told the veterinarian about a weird lump that we saw on Hank's front right leg, she checked the rest of his body and found three more.  The vet thinks that they are fat tissues, but she wants to check them and remove them when Hank is already under the anesthesia for his dental exam in late April.  He hasn't acted any differently since we first noticed the one lump over a year ago, so we're optimistic that they are benign tissues and nothing to worry about!
